Vernon man sentenced to jail time for child porn possession
VERNON – A Vernon man snared in a nation-wide child pornography investigation has been put behind bars.
Rylan Sandberg, 46, was one of 150 Canadians arrested as a result of the investigation, which began in February 2014. A 49-year-old Vernon man and a 29-year-old Kelowna man were also arrested.
Sandberg pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography in May 2015. This week in Vernon Provincial Court, he was handed a 90-day intermittent jail sentence, meaning he won’t serve the days all at the same time. Intermittent jail sentences often involve serving time on weekends so the perpetrator can maintain a job.
Sandberg was also sentenced to an 18-month probation and a DNA order. He was ordered to pay $100 in victim surcharge fees.
The Canada-wide investigation resulted in the seizure of over a million images, some of infants, as well as video depicting sexual abuse of children.
