Kamloops band in finals for Peak Performance Project
KAMLOOPS – A Kamloops band might just be on the brink of stardom and a serious cash prize.
The top three artists from B.C.’s PEAK Performance Project were announced yesterday, Oct. 29, and include Van Damsel; a Kamloops indie-pop band.
The winner will be announced at the finale concert on Nov. 19 at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. There, artists will compete for more than $227,000 in prizes.
Van Damsel beat out nine other acts selected in May 2015 for a spot in the top three. Artists earned points based on votes from the public and, combined with assessments from a committee, the top three was chosen.
They are competing against artists Bed of Stars and J.P. Maurice.
The Peak Performance Project, initially started in 2009, was a seven-year, $5.2-million program meant to educate, promote, develop and launch the careers of some of B.C.’s and Alberta’s up and coming artists. This year marks the last year of the program.
