Afghan forces rescue 2 abducted Pakistani diplomats
ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s foreign ministry says Afghan forces have rescued two Pakistani diplomats who were abducted in Afghanistan last month.
The ministry says the two were “recovered in a security operation” on Wednesday and have been handed over to the Pakistani Embassy in Kabul, the Afghan capital.
The ministry’s statement says Afghan President Ashraf Ghani telephoned the Pakistani embassy to inform the staff about the rescue.
The two were posted at Pakistan’s Consulate in Jalalabad when they went missing on June 16 while they were travelling home to Pakistan.
The ministry says the two will return home to be reunited with their families as soon as possible.
It provided no details about the rescue operation or say who was holding the Pakistanis and where. The ministry thanked the Afghans for the rescue.
