Silver Star in good shape for opening thanks to dump of snow

VERNON – Silver Star will open up trails for nordic skiing, fat biking and snowshoeing in a week thanks to plentiful snowfall on the mountain. 

With a 29 centimetre dump of snow last weekend, groomers have been able to prepare a number of trails, the resort said in a media release. With more snowfall in the forecast this week, the resort plans to open over 40 kilometres of trails Nov. 12.

All the Putnam Creek and Village green trails will be open with a number of blue trails also accessible.

“That’s the conservative prediction. If the forecast for snow holds, there will be even more trails to choose from,” Guy Paulsen, Silver Star’s winter sports manager said.

Snowshoers will have some options for opening weekend, however, it takes longer for the snowshoe trails to build the right amount of snow depth, Paulsen said. 

Fat bikers will be able to ride the multi-use Bridle Path trail starting November 12. The newest addition to Silver Star’s winter sports roster, fat bikers can explore 15 km of trails this season, with 10 km of trail dedicated exclusively to fat biking.

Alpine skiers and snowboarders can look forward to opening day on Nov. 26.

“With a formidable El Nino event predicted for this year and more than 130 acres of new terrain on the mountain, there is a lot of excitement at SilverStar for the new season,” the resort said.
