Heavy snow on Trans Canada; crash near Revelstoke

REVELSTOKE – A car crash on Highway 1 west of Revelstoke closed the route in both directions today, Nov. 7, as heavy snow dumps on the region.

No word yet from the RCMP if anyone was hurt or how many vehicles are involved in the crash.

Drive B.C. is estimating Highway 1 will reopen at about 1 p.m.

Visibility is limited on the Trans Canada from Revelstoke to Mount Revelstoke National Park thanks to heavy snow and fog, according to Drive B.C. The highway has slushy and slippery sections from Craigellachie to Revelstoke, then compact snow and slippery sections from Revelstoke through to the Alberta border.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for the Trans Canada from Rogers Pass to Eagle Pass.

A moist front has dumped about 15 centimetres of snow over the Rogers Pass since last night, the statement says.

The heavy snow is expected to continue today and through to tomorrow morning with 15 to 25 more cm forecast to fall.
