Court ordered sale of Mandy and Me forces owner to seek help

KELOWNA – A West Kelowna woman who is losing her farm of more than 30 years has started raising funds to help provide care and possibly find homes for her animals.

Silverado Socrates’s five-acre farm and business, Mandy and Me Trailriding, was sold to the highest bidder in Kelowna court last week. She was hoping the buyer would let her stay and pay off the $500,000 she owes, but according to Socrates, they are looking to start renovations as soon as they take possession Dec. 5.

That leaves her with less than a month to find temporary housing or possibly permanent homes for 15 horses, two dogs a pig and a rabbit.

Socrates says she is most concerned for her older horses, especially 20-year-old Magic. To help pay for the animals' needs, Socrates has so far raised $1,300 of $2,000 she needs through a Go Fund Me page.

“I plan to put a fair chunk of it towards the care of Magic,” she says. “I just got off the call with the Okanagan Equine Veterinary Hospital. They may keep him a week to ensure he is getting better and help figure a future plan for his health.”
