Kamloops firefighters set world record on way to the top
KAMLOOPS – If claiming several victories at the national championship wasn’t enough, Kamloops firefighters set a new world record during the Firefighter Combat Challenge in Alabama last month as well.
In September, Graham Mackenzie, Mike Brown, Don Clarke, Mark Brise, Shawn Davidson, Josh Booy and Bryce McMillan took part in the FireFit Canadian National Finals in Ontario, where they earned first, second and fourth place in several events.
The team then went to Alabama in October to take part in the Firefighter Combat Challenge, where they earned a couple more top finishes.
The team set a new world record, 4:07, on their way to a first place finish in the team event while Mackenzie finished second overall in the open male division and Brown and Clarke took first and second in the over-40 male division.
The Kamloops Fire Team New Gold previously won the world championships in 2011 and 2012 as well.
