Looking for owner of Second World War medals
VERNON – A Vernon man’s discovery inside an antique desk he bought in Montreal is going viral just days before Remembrance Day.
Martin Bokesch posted to Facebook pictures of the Second World War medals and a short description of his timely find.
“My wife bought an old used desk in Montreal at a furniture dealer,” he says in the post, which already has over 34,000 shares. “Going through it and cleaning it up, a box was found containing four Canadian Veteran Medals. The research so far indicates they are from WW2.”
Bokesch says the name J. Nicholls is printed on the box but he has so far been unable to confirm who the medals belong to.
“These medals appear to have been worn, showing some edge damage and ribbon wear,” he says. “Probably with great pride and honour. It would be great if we could find the rightful recipient, or heirs that these belong to. Please, as a tribute to those that fought and served, let’s find the owner. Share the heck out of this please.”
Based on where he bought the desk, Bokesch and his wife presume the medals belonged to someone in Eastern Canada.
