Trial postponed for Armstrong man facing animal cruelty charges
VERNON – The trial of a man accused of mistreating a large herd of horses in Armstrong has been postponed.
Gary Roberts, 69, was scheduled to begin a three-day trial in Vernon Provincial Court Monday, Nov. 9 on charges of causing unnecessary pain or suffering to an animal, failing to provide necessities, and uttering threats but that trial has been delayed.
Crown lawyer Alex Janse requested an adjournment Monday due to unexpected circumstances involving a key witness in the trial.
Roberts, who is currently self represented, did not oppose the Crown’s request.
Judge Lisa Wyatt granted the adjournment, and the trial will be rescheduled.
The SPCA seized 17 of Roberts’ horses and close to 100 were put up for sale in a court-ordered auction.
