Detectives hope prints ID suspect in GOP office shooting
SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla. – Bullets that were fired into the windows of a county Republican Party office in Florida have been sent to a lab for testing.
Capt. Mark Cheatham of the South Daytona Police Department said Tuesday detectives hope there are latent fingerprints on the bullets that can help them figure out who shot into the office of the Republican Executive Committee of Volusia County.
No one was inside when the shooting took place sometime late Sunday or early Monday. But it represents the latest escalation of tensions with a week remaining until the election.
Cheatham says extra patrols will monitor the local GOP office as well as the local Democratic Party office until the election.
The office is in a strip mall in South Daytona, near Daytona Beach on Florida’s Atlantic Coast.
