A book about a booger by two Vernon women

VERNON – The Doubt Booger is going to make you forget all about those nagging little worries.

Written by Beth McCarthy Marks and illustrated by Nadine Wilson, both of Vernon, the newly released children’s book is about the pesky effect of self-doubts.

“Remember when you were small; those little worries that gnawed on you? You never told anyone about them. This book opens up a way for young and old to share those niggling doubts – and to help shrink that old doubt booger,” Marks says in a press release.

An Okanagan Publishing House book, The Doubt Booger is brought to life by Wilson’s vibrant watercolours.

“I’ve yet to have someone read this book without chuckling. You honestly can’t, the way Nadine portrays the cheeky Doubt Booger makes it impossible not to laugh,” publisher Jadon Ward says.

He adds the most impressive aspect doesn’t have anything to do with the storyline at all.

“From the very beginning, both Beth and Nadine were committed to showcasing multiculturalism throughout the book,” he says. “Not only does that display an integral part of our Canadian society, it also helps young readers realize that everyone has the same doubts, fears, and ability to overcome them.”

It’s special to see a book that entertains and engages children while also giving them new insights about themselves, and The Doubt Booger is that kind of book, Ward says.

The Doubt Booger is the rare story that does just that,” he says.

Books are available in paperback or ebook, and can be purchased online at Barnes and Noble, Chapters.Indigo.ca and Amazon. Locally the book is available in Vernon at Nadine’s Fine Art and Frames. Beth McCarthy Marks is doing a book signing at Nadine’s Fine Art and Frames Nov. 27 during an annual open house from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The book will become available in other stores in coming weeks.
