No charges laid after 160 pounds of marijuana found in vehicle involved in fatal Highway 1 crash
REVELSTOKE – No charges have been laid after RCMP members discovered 160 pounds of marijuana in a tractor trailer involved in a fatal collision near Revelstoke yesterday.
Police were called to an area on Highway 1 east of Revelstoke around 6 a.m., Nov. 17, after two commercial trucks collided. The driver of the eastbound tractor trailer was killed in the crash.
Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky with the Revelstoke RCMP says that truck is now involved in a drug investigation after 160 pounds of marijuana was found in the vehicles’ power unit.
Passengers from each of the colliding trucks were transferred to hospital with serious injuries.
“There was a passenger in the (eastbound) vehicle — a co-driver — and at this time we will not be charging him,” Grabinsky says.
Officers with the Revelstoke RCMP have handed the investigation over to a provincial traffic unit, he says, adding no further information is available at this time.
Grabinsky says he does not know where the drugs were destined for originally.
