UBCO students hold moment of silence for victims of world tragedies

KELOWNA – Students at UBC Okanagan held a moment of silence Wednesday, as a way to bring attention to the number of tragedies that have happened around the world this month.

The day started at noon and included talks by representatives from several cultural clubs on campus. It was organized by Ryan Kaila, who wanted to support victims of all tragedies.

“It’s also about spreading awareness for some of the things that didn’t get as much attention," he says. “We can’t cover everything but we’re trying to do our best to make sure some of the stuff that’s not getting covered gets some awareness.”

The event, held Nov. 18, attracted more than 100 people from all walks of life. Guest speakers included members of various clubs like the Asian Student Association, the European Association, Muslim Student Association, the African Carribbean Student Association and the Arab Association.

“It was a great turnout,” Kaila says. “It was awesome to see the campus come together."
