Kamloops band Van Damsel takes home $50K prize

KAMLOOPS – Van Damsel was named a finalist in the PEAK Performance Project and after the finale concert last night were named as winners of a $50,000 prize.

The Kamloops indie-pop band came in third place, with JP Maurice earning the $75,000 second prize and Bed of Stars winning the top prize of $102,000.

During a public vote, bootcamp and private assessment Van Damsel beat out nine other performers to make the top-three.

Van Damsel also made the top-20 in 2013.

The PEAK Performance Project was started in 2009 as a seven-year, $5.2-million program to educate, promote, develop and launch careers of B.C. and Alberta artists. This was the final year for the program.
