MORRISTOWN, N.J. – A former Olympian equestrian charged with shooting and wounding a woman at a New Jersey farm where he trained other riders will be detained pending trial.
Michael Barisone appeared in court Wednesday in New Jersey a week after the shooting at his training centre in Morris County. The judge said Barisone was a danger to others.
Police allege he also shot at the woman’s fiance but missed. The couple had been training horses at Barisone’s farm.
Barisone’s lawyer said the couple had refused to pay rent and had threatened Barisone. He said he would again seek Barisone’s release pending trial.
According to his website, Barisone was a member of the 2008 Olympic team, has coached Olympians and is a member of the U.S. Equestrian Federation’s board of directors.
