Westside Warriors down visiting Vipers

WEST KELOWNA – The West Kelowna Warriors got two goals each from Jonathan Desbiens and Quin Foreman in a 4-1 win over the Vernon Vipers on Friday night, Nov. 20, at Royal Lepage Place in West Kelowna.

A scoreless first period was made possible by Viper goaltender Andrew Shortridge, who made some big saves as the Warriors outshot Vernon 13-5 in the opening 20 minutes.

Foreman would get the Warriors on the board at 3:44 of the second period, as Liam Blackburn poked a puck over and Foreman hammered it home.

Desbiens had the highlight of the night as his first off the rush was a perfectly placed shot off the crossbar and down.

West Kelowna went 0-for-3 on the power play in the middle frame, but held a 34-15 edge in shots after 40 minutes of play.

The Warriors made it 3-0 when Foreman's second goal was set-up by a cross-crease pass from Blackburn. Foreman would hammer it at the net, it hit the pad of Shortridge then the post and went in.

Vernon made it a two-goal game again on the power play, as Riley Brandt's slapshot went through the blocker-side of Keelan Williams.

Desbiens made a nifty move in tight on a pass from Kylar Hope to round out the scoring. Final shots were 45-24 for the Warriors.

West Kelowna will wrap up their weekend set with a match-up against the visiting Alberni Valley Bulldogs, who are coming off a 10-1 defeat to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks Friday night.
