TAPPEN – A dirt biker is in hospital with severe injuries after he was hit by oncoming traffic while trying to cross the Trans-Canada Highway Nov. 21, police say.

Staff Sgt. Scott West of Salmon Arm RCMP says in a media release investigators believe the man riding the bike didn't stop before crossing near Bolton Road and "collided with through traffic" on the highway. The man, in his 20s, was taken to hospital in Salmon Arm then taken to a "major centre" for further treatment. West says alcohol has not been ruled out as a factor.

Police didn't release a name, the extent of injuries or where the driver was taken. The release didn't say if he was hit by more than one vehicle, if anyone else was injuried in the incident or if the man was accompanied by others at the time.

We will have more information as it's released by police.
