Image of Asia: Children enact scene from India’s history

In this photo by Aijaz Rahi, schoolchildren enact a scene of India’s history during Independence Day celebrations in Bangalore, India. The country celebrated Monday’s anniversary of the end of British rule in 1947 with cultural and military parades, colorful festivals and political speeches. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort, the 17th-century sandstone structure built by the Mughal emperors who ruled much of modern-day India before the British arrived. Modi said in his speech that India would not bow to extremism and called for young people to turn away from violence.
