Trial date set for man accused of unprovoked murder on Kelowna bus
KELOWNA – The man accused of stabbing and killing a fellow bus user in front of dozens of witnesses last year will take place in June before a judge and jury.
Tyler Jack Newton, 25, is charged with second-degree murder for what police call an unprovoked attack on KF Aerospace employee Caesar Rosales, 55, on a transit bus Oct. 30.
The attack happened on a crowded city bus and within 24 hours, RCMP arrested Newton and he has been held in custody ever since.
The B.C. Supreme Court trial is scheduled to start June 6, 2016.
Newton has a criminal history including charges that date back to 2008. They include theft over $5,000, breaking and entering, resisting arrest, possession of controlled substance, theft of a vehicle and trafficking.
