Driver leads RCMP on chase from Banff to Shuswap

SALMON ARM – It started with a man fleeing a traffic stop in Banff and ended on a logging road in the Shuswap yesterday.

RCMP gave chase when a driver took off after getting pulled over in Banff on Nov. 25, according to a media release.

Police from several jurisdictions including Revelstoke, Sicamous and Salmon Arm kept tabs on the driver as he made his way west on the Trans Canada Highway.

A 57-year-old Saskatchewan man was arrested by officers from Salmon Arm after a police dog tracked him down when he ditched his vehicle on a logging road near Canoe last night around 9:15 p.m.

“Investigators are continuing the investigation into the reasons as to why the man caused a multi-jurisdictional pursuit,” Cpl. Thomas Blakney says in the release.

The driver remains in custody. No word on what charges police are considering.
