Avoid the cold: Indoor things to do this weekend in Penticton

PENTICTON – For those excited about snow and cold weather, Apex Ski Resort opens tomorrow, Nov. 27. For the rest who may not want to spend too much time ouside in the cold, here are a few ways to enjoy the weekend indoors.

Indoor activities in the city include a Penticton Vees game Saturday when the Vees host the Merritt Centennials. 

Doors open at the South Okanagan Events Centre at 5 p.m. and puck drops at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the Valley First Box Office, the Wine Country Visitor Centre and online at ValleyFIrstTix.com Tickets can also be purchased by phone at 1-877-763-2849. Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.

Penticton Swing ’N Jive Dance Association hosts its first event Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. at Orchard House, located at Orchard Avenue and Martin Street. There will be a free jive lesson at 7:30 p.m. followed by open dancing at 8:15 p.m. Dance to music of the big band era of the 1940s, 1950s rock and roll and modern retro remixes. Proceeds from the evening go to Peach City Radio. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, with a membership option available. For more information contact: 778-840-4638.

The Penticton Trade and Convention Centre provides the venue for Natalie McMaster and Donnell Leahy as they present Two Fiddles Two Pianos Live on Saturday starting at 7:30 p.m. Natalie McMaster is a globally acclaimed Cape Breton fiddle player with sales of more than 200,000 albums, while Donnell Leahy is the musical leader of the Celtic family group Leahy. Tickets can be purchased at www.ValleyFirstTix.com, by telephone at 1-877-763-2849, or in person at the Valley First Box Office at the events centre and the Wine Country Visitor Centre.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.

As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
