Pedophile released from prison won’t be coming back to Kelowna

KELOWNA – A spokesperson from the Provincial Parole Board says a convicted pedophile who is considered a high risk to reoffend will not be coming back to Kelowna.

Shaun Joshua Deacon, 50 was released from prison Nov. 26 where he was serving time for a third breach of conditions imposed after he pleaded guilty to sexual assault.

Board spokesperson Patrick Storey says where Deacon will live is not being disclosed, however one city is off the list.

“It’s not Kelowna,” he says.

Deacon left Kelowna in 2005 and according to a media release sent by the Vancouver Police Department, poses a high risk.

His criminal record goes back to 1998 when he was sentenced for a sexual assault in Langley.

Storey says the initial sentence was two years, nine months and seven days followed by a 10-year supervision order. Three times he breached the order and had three subsequent sentences imposed.

The parole portion from his latest sentence ends Oct. 27, 2016, then he goes back onto his long term supervision until sometime in 2018.

In that time, he is forbidden from contact with anyone under 16, cannot be in places where children under 16 are likely to be, must live in a residential facility chosen for him, cannot access the Internet or possess images of children under 16.
