Penticton police continue to nab impaired drivers
PENTICTON – In what may be a sign of the season, Penticton RCMP found themselves handing out several Immediate Roadside Prohibitions last week, and they weren’t even conducting roadside checks at the time.
Detachment officers handed out three 90-day driving prohibitions on Thursday, Nov. 26, alone, Penticton RCMP media spokesperson Corporal Don Wrigglesworth says.
A vehicle stopped on Lakeshore Drive after leaving a bar on Thursday led to a failed roadside breath analysis for the driver, who received a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition.
In a second incident, a man who parked on a Duncan Avenue sidewalk also received a 90-day prohibition when he refused to provide a breath sample.
A third motorist, driving down Green Mountain Road, took the S-turns at Sumac Court a little too quickly and left the roadway. He also failed a roadside screening test and received a 90-day prohibition.
On Friday night, Nov. 27, police stopped an intoxicated male driver driving into Penticton. He acted belligerent and aggressive towards officers and refused to provide a breath sample. He ended up spending the night in jail in addition to receiving a 90-day prohibition.
