Dad charged after cops say son took heroin packs to school

TRENTON, N.J. – A New Jersey man has been charged after police say his 5-year-old son brought 30 packs of heroin to school.

Police say an International Academy of Trenton teacher thought the kindergartner was playing with a candy wrapper last week when she looked in his lunchbox and found 29 other packets of the drug.

The boy was taken to a hospital and tested negative for opiates.

NJ.com reports (http://bit.ly/2d4RuP2 ) Maurice Leonard of Trenton, was arrested Wednesday night and has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

It’s not known if he has a lawyer.

Details on how the boy was able to get the drugs weren’t immediately available.
