Report: Raptors sign power centre/forward Jared Sullinger

TORONTO – The Toronto Raptors appear to have signed power forward/centre Jared Sullinger in an attempt to solidify their frontcourt.

The Raptors have not officially announced the signing, but Sullinger tweeted “WE THE NORTH#0” on his verified account and changed his Twitter avatar to a Raptors logo. Reports say the deal is for one year at around US$6 million.

Toronto has been looking for frontcourt help to replace popular centre Bismack Biyombo, who signed as a free agent with Orlando.

Sullinger spent his first four season in the NBA with Boston, averaging 11.1 points and 7.7 rebounds a game. He is considered a talented player who struggles with fitness.

The Celtics rescinded a $4.4-million qualifying offer to Sullinger last week.

Boston has been in need of cap space after signing Al Horford to a four-year, $113 million contract.
