More heavy snow on Southern Interior mountain passes

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN – Another storm is moving through the B.C. Interior today and tonight, Dec. 6, following the system that dumped snow in mountain passes on Saturday.

Environment Canada has issued another special weather statement warning drivers to be prepared for heavy snow on the upper elevation highways.

Another frontal system is crossing the Interior today and tonight and it is expected to dump another 20 to 30 centimetres of snow at the Coquihalla Summit on Highway 5, and in the Allison and Kootenay Passes on Highway 3, according to the statement.

The snow should ease to flurries by tomorrow morning.

While it’s been snowing in the mountains, the valley bottoms have been experiencing a cloudy weekend thoughout the Southern Interior, with rain in the Okanagan and the odd shower in the South Thompson.

The statement warns, “rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”
