Vancouver tourists take unexpected dip in Shuswap River
Two people from Vancouver avoided hypothermia after tipping their canoe in the Shuswap River in Enderby on the weekend.
Vernon RCMP say the pair ended up in the swift, high water when their canoe overturned Saturday, June 15 at around 3:15 p.m. They were trapped on the east side of the river in an inlet.
Vernon Search and Rescue were called but didn't get their boat launched from Kingfisher for about an hour.
They worked their way south along the river, while the RCMP officers who were first on the scene, kept eye contact with the two people holding on for dear life in the river.
Over two hours after the canoe capsized, dumping the Vancouver pair into the river, the volunteers from Search and Rescue pulled them from the water.
The two people, ages 54 and 27, were cold but unharmed.
