VERNON – A teenager who died when he was struck by a car while longboarding on a city street in Vernon has been identified by the B.C. Coroners Service.
He was Christopher Mathew Mitchell, 17, from Vernon.
Mitchell was longboarding northbound on 39 Street at about 11 p.m. July 13 when the collision with an eastbound minivan at Okanagan Avenue happened.
He was transported to Vernon Jublilee Hospital but didn't survive his injuries.
A media release from Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk states Mitchell likely rode through a stop sign and the driver of the vehicle likely didn't see him in time to react.
Mitchell's family has been notified of his death.
The coroner and RCMP continue to investigate.
