TORONTO – Outfielder Jose Bautista wasn’t in the Toronto Blue Jays’ starting lineup for Friday night’s home game against the Baltimore Orioles.

He left in the sixth inning of Thursday’s game against the Orioles with tightness in his right thigh and will get an extra day to rest. Ezequiel Carrera replaced Bautista in right field and at the top of the batting order.

Bautista, who’ll be available to pinch-hit if needed, is batting .234 with 12 homers and 40 runs-batted in this season.

Toronto manager John Gibbons is hopeful Bautista will be ready to return for Saturday’s matinee against the Orioles.

Gibbons also said shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, who’s on the 15-day disabled list with a right quadriceps strain, took himself out of Friday’s extended spring-training game in Dunedin, Fla.

Gibbons had few details, only saying Tulowitzki “just didn’t feel right.”

He added it was unlikely Tulowitzki would be ready to come off the DL as scheduled Sunday, but that he had yet to receive an update on his status.

Tulowitzki is batting .204 with eight homers and 23 RBIs in 46 games.
