CBS says Colbert’s show to air live during conventions

NEW YORK – Stephen Colbert will air two weeks of live programs during the Republican and Democratic conventions next month.

CBS said Wednesday that Colbert will host the “Late Show” from his usual studio in New York City. The program will have an “on-air presence” in Cleveland and Philadelphia during the conventions, but CBS didn’t specify what that would be.

The “Late Show” is usually taped in the late afternoon. CBS News hasn’t announced its convention coverage plans, but in recent years the broadcast networks have been covering the convention in the 10 p.m. ET hour. Colbert would come on after a break for local news.

The GOP convention is scheduled for the week of July 18, the Democrats the week after.
