Thieves strike Kelowna’s Candy Cane Lane

KELOWNA – Christmas spirit has taken a hit after thieves stole several laser light show displays from homes in Kelowna's Springvalley neighbourhood decorated to spreak holiday cheer and collect food for local charities.

Every year, home owners create Candy Cane Lane by decorating their homes and yards with blinding Christmas decorations. Last year they collected about 7,000 lbs. of food for local charities.

Several of the laser light show displays were stolen by thieves over the past week, according to a post on the Candy Cane Lane Facebook page.

“I have to share some bad news,” the post begins and goes on to say they were perhaps naive to think the laser displays would never be stolen from a place like Candy Cane Lane.

“I would hope the thieves understand this affects our event as we lose a little bit of hope that kindness, respect and honesty is something people still have,” the post says.

The organizers are hoping that thieves will find it in their hearts to return the light and help them restore their “faith in humanity.”
