VERNON – For the RCMP to create a team in September, 2005 to rid Vernon of a gang that killed seven people in eleven months, it took far more than Mounties, undercover officers and case managers.

Today, the RCMP recognized several of the people behind the scenes in Project E-Peccant, a case that resulted in the province's longest-ever jury trial and convictions on eight counts of first-degree murder, three counts of second-degree murder and three counts of manslaughter.

Pat Goertz was recognized for trancribing hundreds of pages of interviews and Sandy Irvine as exhibit custodian. They also recognized Ewen Pitt, Brent Lynn, Al Rodgers and Greg Heck for their work behind the scenes in the investigation team. 

Chief Supt. Jim Gresham called it "one of the greatest accomplishments in the history of the RCMP major crimes program." The case involved some 100 police and civilian witnesses, requiring thousands of hours of support.
