TUNBRIDGE, Vt. – Vermont State Police say an 87-year-old woman who was hit by what appeared to be a bullet outside her Tunbridge home has died at the hospital.
Edith Whitney, who was hospitalized on Saturday night and underwent emergency surgery, died Monday at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Investigators say they have spoken with people who were shooting a firearm in Tunbridge around the time Whitney was hit.
Police say they recovered shell casings, a firearm and ammunition.
The investigation is ongoing, but the case appears to have been an accident.
