More snow for the Coquihalla Highway this weekend

MERRITT – If you’re planning a road trip between the Southern Interior and the Lower Mainland this weekend be prepared for winter road conditions on the mountain highways.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement today, Dec. 19, for the Coquihalla Highway between Merritt and Hope with between 10 to 20 centimetres of snow by tomorrow night.

Meteorologists say a Pacific cold front will track across the South Coast tonight and move into the Southern Interior on Sunday.

The cold front will start dumping snow on the Sea to Sky highway north of Squamish tonight and spread to the Coquihalla overnight and into tomorrow.

Drive B.C. is reporting compact snow and slippery sections on the mountain highways both westbound to the coast and eastbound to Alberta. Highways in the valley bottoms are bare or wet with the occasional slippery section.
