SUV takes out fire hydrant flooding Kelowna intersection

KELOWNA – No one was hurt when a SUV took out a fire hydrant in Kelowna just after midnight, sending water gushing and flooding an intersection.

The driver of a Ford Escape hit the hydrant at Highway 33 and Gerstmar Road around 12:15 a.m., Dec. 20, according to Kelowna Fire Department Platoon Capt. John Kelly.

Kelly says the driver wasn’t hurt and a crew from Rutland Waterworks was called to shut off the water and repair the hydrant.

He says fire crews stayed on the scene to make sure the storm drains were clear so the water could drain.

There was concerns about the water freezing but City of Kelowna crews were called to make an assessment, Kelly says.

RCMP were on the scene but no word if the driver will face any charges.

I seem to find them all lol
