There have been reports of a sow bear and her cub near BX Elementary School along Silverstar Road over the past few days.
WildSafe B.C. coordinator Marnie Cuthill says residents can help keep the bears in the wild and away from residential areas.
"The bear appears to be using the BX Creek riparian area as a travel corridor but is being attracted up into the neighborhood by unnatural food sources such as garbage, bird feeders and pet food," Cuthill says. "Keep your pets indoors or leashed and make sure there are no attractants left outside."
If you encounter the bear, Cuthill says to remain calm and move everyone indoors.
Call and report the encounter to the Conservation Officer Reporting Line at 1-877-952-7277.
