Kamloops Cascades Casino looking at new parking options

KAMLOOPS – Cascades Casino is looking to expand with plans to build an outdoor amphitheatre but in order to move forward the casino has had to settle previous issues with parking.

Gateway Casinos, Cascades’ parent company, recently submitted a draft parking plan to the City of Kamloops looking at other possible options, Marvin Kwiatkowski, the city’s engineering and development director, says.

The plans are currently in draft and with many details yet to be finalized, Kwiatkowski is not able to release specifics of the plan. He says it’s possible a new space for parking might need to be rezoned though.

“Once they supply us with more information the application can proceed,” he says.

The company plans for an outdoor amphitheatre were originally put on hold because of concerns over parking. At the time CEO Tony Santo said the space would be considered again when the casino finally opened.

Tentative plans for an amphitheatre were released mid-November. It was described as a backyard patio entertainment space located between the casino and edge of Costco’s parking lot. Plans have it built on wood decking complete with a special VIP bar section, roll-up bars and temporary stage.
