Roz Chast, Atul Gawande, who wrote about aging, receive Books for a Better Life Awards

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Two authors of bestselling books about aging are among the winners of the Books for a Better Life Award, a prize handed out by the Southern New York Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Honored at a ceremony Monday night in Manhattan were Roz Chast’s graphic memoir about her parents, “Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant?” and Atul Gawande’s study of old age and health care, “Being Mortal.” Meredith Vieira hosted.

Other works cited include Liza Long’s “The Price of Silence,” Kristin Ohlson’s “The Soil Will Save Us” and Bryan Stevenson’s “Just Mercy.”

The Multiple Sclerosis Society awards self-improvement authors who help inspire “people to live their best lives.”
