Joseph Boyden ballet among shows in National Arts Centre’s new dance season
OTTAWA – A ballet based on a story by acclaimed author Joseph Boyden and a residency by the Hong Kong Ballet are among the highlights of the National Arts Centre’s upcoming dance season.
Boyden’s “Going Home Star — Truth and Reconciliation,” which debuted last October as part of the 75th anniversary season of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, will run at the Ottawa venue in January.
Mark Godden choreographed and Christos Hatzis composed the piece, about a young First Nations woman and a trickster disguised as a homeless man.
The 2015-2016 dance season will also see the Hong Kong Ballet making its NAC debut with several pieces, including “The Sleeping Beauty.”
A total of 44 performances and 19 dance events from 19 different companies make up the new season.
Others include the Canadian premiere of “Torobaka,” a collaboration between Akram Khan and Israel Galvan, and a new work by choreographer Edouard Lock of La La La Human Steps.
