Man rescued from vehicle after running red light in West Kelowna

WEST KELOWNA – A man from West Kelowna had to be extricated from his vehicle after a crash he caused when he ran a red light on Brown Road Tuesday night.

Just after 8:30 p.m., on Dec. 29, a grey Dodge Caravan was going through the Brown Road intersection of the highway when she was hit by a southbound red Chevy Equinox crossing the highway on Brown Road.

The 52-year-old West Kelowna man was trapped inside his vehicle and West Kelowna Fire Rescue had to remove the doors and other parts of the vehicle before he could be pulled out. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says police determined the driver of the Equinox entered the intersection on a red light. He was ticketed for failing to stop for a red light, which carries a fine of $167. Police do not believe alcohol was a factor.

The driver of the Caravan, a 41-year-old West Kelowna woman was treated and released at the scene.
