Police canvass neighbourhood near UBC investigating early-morning assault

VANCOUVER – Vancouver police are looking for witnesses to an early-morning sexual assault near the UBC campus.

They say a 30-year-old woman was grabbed from behind and thrown to the ground while jogging near Pacific Spirit Park at around 6 a.m. Thursday.

She screamed and fought off the attacker, sustained minor injuries and police say she’s distraught and shaken.

Police searched the area with a police service dog, but could not find the suspect.

They say it’s too early to determine whether the attack could be linked to others on or near the campus over the last two years.

A week ago, a woman was grabbed by the neck and dragged at the university’s Totem residence by a man who has since been arrested.
