UPDATE: Kamloops firefighters douse grass fire in extremely windy conditions

KAMLOOPS – Firefighters have put out a grass fire in extremely windy conditions Saturday afternoon.

Assistant fire chief Dave McMahon says they were called at about 1:40 p.m. to put out a flare up from a fire they had put out Friday night.

McMahon says the previous fire was about 2 football fields in size on the silt hill in the Dallas neighbourhood.

A private contractor was working with a bulldozer on the hill above the intersection of Kokanee Way and Dallas Drive near a residential area. It stirred up some embers and sparked a new fire, according to McMahon.

Crews put out the blaze and soaked the area down to make sure there were no hot spots.
