VIDEO: Player steps up to the mic to sing Hungarian Anthem at Kamloops hockey tournament
KAMLOOPS – In the true spirit of sport, Kamloops fans rallied to sing the American national anthem when the PA system failed during a tournament this week, but it was one Hungarian player who really saved the day by representing his home country.
It wasn’t a great start to the annual Kamloops International Bantam Ice Hockey Tournament, but when the public address system failed during the opening ceremonies, fans stepped in to sing the American anthem but it was 15-year-old hockey player Laszlo Horvath who stole the show when he suddenly took to the mic to sing the Hungarian anthem.
Local radio announcer Shawn Pooley was at the opening ceremonies this week and caught the inspiring young player on video.
The tournament runs Dec. 30 through Jan. 3 with 30 teams playing games at arenas throughout the city.
