The Canadian dollar closed at 86.15 cents U-S, down 8-100ths from Thursday’s close.

The S-and-P/T-S-X composite index was up 121.51 points to 14,468.26.

Volume at 4:15 p.m. Eastern Time was 1.1 (m) billion shares.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 26.65 points to 17,804.80.

The Standard-and-Poor’s 500 index was up 9.42 points to 2,070.65.

In the New York Mercantile Exchange, the gold futures for February closed at 1,196 dollars U-S per ounce, up one dollar, 20 cents.

The January crude contract closed at 56 dollars, 52 cents U-S per barrel, up two dollars, 41 cents.
