UPDATE: Firefighters battle Kelowna house fire

KELOWNA – A home in East Kelowna suffered mostly water and smoke damage after a fire in the attached garage spread to the house today.

Firefighters were called to the home at 2105 Diamond Rd. just before noon, Jan. 3, and crews arrived to find the garage fully engulfed in flames, which were spreading to the house.

“Quick actions by the first unit slowed the progress of the fire allowing firefighters to enter the structure and limit the damages on the inside of the home to mostly smoke and water damage,” Platoon Capt. Tim Light says in a media release.

The three people at home at the time of the fire made it out safely, he says.

“An aggressive salvage of personal belongings was done by the inside team to protect family heirlooms and some irreplaceable items,” Light says in the release.

The cause of the fire isn’t considered suspicious.
