Woman jumps from moving vehicle in attempt to evade Vernon police officer

VERNON – A woman with several outstanding warrants made a dramatic, yet unsuccessful, attempt to flee from police in Vernon.

An officer patrolling the area of 30 Avenue noticed a white Chevrolet truck speeding around 3 a.m. Dec. 31 and attempted to pull over the driver. Instead of stopping, the driver fled south on 35 Street. The officer did not pursue the vehicle, Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy says. Details weren't entirely clear, but she said the officer was able to keep an eye on the vehicle.

“The driver jumped from the still-moving truck and attempted to flee on foot,” Noseworthy says.

The truck rolled into a parked van, causing minor damage to both vehicles. The female driver was then apprehended by the officer. Checks of the truck revealed it was reported stolen from North Battleford, Sask. Dec. 2. Police also discovered the woman had four outstanding warrants.

Christine Webb, 27, was arrested for possession of property obtained by crime and failure to comply with a recognizance. She was also slapped with violation tickets for driving without a license and failing to stop for police.

Police say Webb was living in Vernon at the time of the incident, but could not say where she is from. She is due in Vernon Provincial Court Jan. 6.
