Winnipeg landfill yields no clues to whereabouts of missing city woman

WINNIPEG – Winnipeg police have ended their search of a landfill for the body of a 31-year-old woman who disappeared more than a year ago.

Const. Jason Michalyshen (mih-kuh-LIH’-shehn), a police spokesman, says the six-day search found no evidence of Tanya Nepinak (NEE’-pih-nak).

Michalyshen says nine police service members combed a small area of the 470-hectare Brady landfill, based on advice from aboriginal elders.

But Nepinak’s family wants police to search another area of the dump, saying they focused on too small an area and ignored advice from relatives.

Nepinak disappeared last September and is believed to have been killed and dumped in a garbage container.

Shawn Lamb, who is 52, has been charged with second-degree murder in her death and in those of two other women.
