Former firefighter arrested after holding 4 others hostage at Philadelphia-area fire company

ELKINS PARK, Pa. – Authorities have identified a 25-year-old Philadelphia man as the disgruntled former volunteer firefighter who held four others hostage with a 9mm handgun in the basement of a suburban firehouse.

Police say Paul Jordan held the four firefighters hostage Tuesday after he was fired from the LaMott Fire Company in Cheltenham Township a day earlier.

SWAT team members converged on the fire company at about 10:40 a.m. No one was injured in the ordeal, and Jordan was led out of the firehouse in handcuffs about an hour later.

It’s unclear how long he had been a firefighter or why he was fired.

Charges against Jordan have not yet been filed.
