
The Latest: Suspect fired gun in shootout that killed deputy
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Latest on the killing of a Colorado sheriff’s deputy (all times local):
6:20 p.m.
Authorities say a car theft suspect fired a semi-automatic handgun during a shootout that left a Colorado sheriff’s deputy dead.
Colorado Springs police say 19-year-old Manuel Zetina struggled with officers after he was confronted in the parking lot of an apartment complex Monday afternoon.
Investigators say 34-year-old El Paso County sheriff’s Deputy Micah Flick died at the scene.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Jake Abendshan received what appeared to be shrapnel injuries and has been released from a hospital. Deputy Scott Stone was shot in his abdomen, but authorities say his injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening.
Colorado Springs Detective Marcus Yanez has been released from a hospital. The condition of a bystander who also was shot has not been released.
Flick is the third law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty in five weeks. His funeral will be held Saturday.

Authorities in Colorado say a sheriff’s officer suffered a gunshot wound to his abdomen in a shooting that left another deputy dead.
El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder told reporters Tuesday that Deputy Scott Stone’s injuries didn’t appear to be life-threatening. He says sheriff’s Sgt. Jake Abendshan also received what appeared to be shrapnel injuries and has been released from a hospital.
Deputy Micah Flick was killed as officers investigated a stolen car Monday. The shooting also wounded a Colorado Springs police officer and a bystander.
Elder says all the officers were wearing bulletproof vests and were in plainclothes but wearing badges.
Flick is the third law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty in five weeks.

A Colorado officer wounded in a shooting that killed a fellow deputy is out of the hospital.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says Sgt. Jake Abendshan was treated and released Monday night after a shooting in Colorado Springs that killed 34-year-old Deputy Micah Flick.
Another deputy who was injured, Scott Stone, was still in the hospital in stable condition Tuesday.
A Colorado Springs police officer and a bystander also were wounded as officers investigated a stolen car, but their conditions haven’t been released.
The shooting suspect was killed.

Police in Colorado are investigating what led to the fatal shooting of a sheriff’s deputy, who became the third officer to die in the line of duty in the state since New Year’s Eve.
At least seven police officers also have been injured during those separate incidents.
Authorities say 34-year-old El Paso County sheriff’s Deputy Micah Flick was shot Monday while investigating a stolen car in Colorado Springs, about 70 miles (110 kilometres) south of Denver.
Colorado Springs Police Chief Pete Carey told reporters that the officers “encountered an adult male suspect, a struggle ensued and shots were fired.” It wasn’t clear who fired or how many shots were fired.
Two other deputies, a Colorado Springs police officer and a bystander were injured. The suspect was shot and killed.
