2-day auction of items from Lauren Bacall’s Manhattan apartment fetch $3.6M
NEW YORK, N.Y. – A two-day auction of the contents of Lauren Bacall’s spacious Manhattan apartment at The Dakota realized $3.6 million.
Bonhams says 1,500 bidders vied for the film and theatre legend’s artwork, furniture, jewelry and housewares on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Objects associated with her first husband, Humphrey Bogart, all went above their high estimates including a steamer trunk that brought $47,500.
Other highlights included an 1836 hand-colored Audubon engraving titled “American White Pelican” which sold for $173,000.
Two paintings by Albert Edward York, “Landscape with Trees” and “A Country Fence,” sold for $161,000, setting an auction record for the American artist.
Bonhams also sold two Henry Moore sculptures from her collection in November, bringing the final sale result to $5 million.
Bacall died in August at age 89.
